Bats.
They flutter. Which made me think, perhaps I should envision them as large black butterflies. VERY large black butterflies. Somehow, I had a hard time envisioning a wild hairy beast as a butterfly. Go figure!
Didn't work. (And I like butterflies). I was still paranoid.
This was last night.
Mark is still working. Yeah, it's lunchtime and he's STILL working since going to work yesterday morning! When he pulls these all-nighters, which he hasn't done in a long time, I usually push myself a little too far - meaning, I stay up WAY too late. Well last night I didn't fall asleep 'til well past 4! I know that's absurd but I only *planned* to stay up until about 2. I had a hard time going to bed knowing there were bats in my attic again!
27 of them were killed last summer. Mark and Mr. Quick (landlord) sealed up possible entrances, last year as well. So, when I heard a "squeak, squeak, flutter, squeak" the other day. I froze in my tracks, actually I was sitting down at the time but I froze nonetheless! So great is my fear. I kid you not, every nerve in my body goes on-alert and my heart starts pounding.
So we notified Mr. Quick, who said he'd get more traps - those sticky kind that rats crawl on and get stuck to - they work like a charm for bats! (Keep that in mind if you ever get them!) Now, I used to *think* I was afraid of mice. We got a couple in our house in Michigan but that's NOTHING compared to the bats. Let me tell you. I wouldn't even bat-an-eye anymore if I saw a mouse (Lol. That one just slipped out).
Last night, when I was staying up way too late looking at Scrapsupply (haven't figured out if that's one word or two yet??) - which by the way I found a whole line that I fell in love with! I even had to send Em an email at midnight to tell her! It's called "My Minds Eye" and I want EVERY single thing they have! Lol. For anyone who doesn't scrap, they have a "wish list" where you can save all the things you'd like to have. And I can see why they do that because there are so many things to go through on the site. It really helps to keep track of your "wants" or in most cases, your "have to haves"! ;)
Anyway, I was sitting here and I kept hearing this little clunk-type noise behind me. I'd listen carefully and I'd hear it again. So I slowly walked to the other side of the room, that would mean that I took about two steps, and listened. Then I heard a fluttering sound. Then I proceeded into panic-mode because that's always practical when you have a bat attempting to break into your living room!
I called my dh, my heart pounding, hands sweating. "What am I going to do?!" He was sympathetic but sympathy isn't much help in a situation like this. So I reassured him I'd be fine. I lied! Yes. I lied to my dh!! Because I'd rather he stayed and worked on the house - he was already planning an all-nighter and I proceeded to get the broom from outside. Then I remembered that I had picked up some old badminton rackets when we were junk picking. So I got one of those - figured it'd be pretty useful if that thing got in.
Now mind you, the type of bats we have in our house are quite different from ones I've encountered before. They're far more devious. I swear every now and then I can hear them licking their chops and whispering. At first, I swore that I could hear them breathing but then I realized that they must be whispering, scheming! They're enjoying their rein of terror over this house, I firmly believe that!
Thee old imagination works pretty well after midnight because by then I really did start to believe it! Lol. And "no" it didn't get in the house last night but there's always tonight... I'll be on-edge until we move!
*Mark got home shortly after I started this post - had to take a break for moment. Needless to say, he's sleeping now. :)

Yikes! I am not a fan of bats myself. When I'm at the dog park in the late evenings, they come out and the air is full of swooping bats. I try to make Atlas catch them but he is not very agreeable.
Also, I do not scrap (tried and quit - I buy supplies periodically and use them to make card) but I understand your feeling totally. I am the same way with card supplies. I once spent days calling stamp distributors trying to find a stamp I had seen in a store that I wanted for Christmas but couldn't find anywhere that sold them. All I knew was what it looked like and the name, and didn't know how it was spelled. I did have success, though. :)
I haven't scrapped either. :) I'm planning to do picture frames - and cards/gift tags. I've been wanting to make my own forever! This is the first time I've been on a scrapbook supply website and I'm having a ball. :)
