- When you are young, you know you will never listen to children's music of any sort. It is far too boring for your tastes, not to mention obnoxious. You will listen to it. And you will enjoy it. And you will memorize every song your child does. Whether you want to or not.
- You may think you love your siblings and your nieces and nephews. This is nothing. This does not even compare to the love you will feel for your own child.
- You may think you know what you will do when you are a parent. You are clueless. You will tackle each hurdle as it comes. Sometimes you will be right. Many times you will be wrong. Your child will love you anyway.
- You may think you are still young. Your child will know otherwise. They will willingly let you know this. You won't mind. You will love them anyway.
- When you are wrong, your child will let you know. This will keep you humble.
- You will learn that a kiss or a band-aid really can "make it all better".
- When you are sad, you will learn that the smallest being can make your heart sing.
- You may think you love your husband. This doesn't compare to the love you will feel for him once you have a child.
- You may think you love your first child so much that you could never possibly love another as much. You are wrong. Your love will only grow. And it will grow with each child you are blessed with.

Jen - that was beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
I will confess, though, that I can still sing almost every song I heard when I was a child. I'm not sure that I want this ability; it's just that it doesn't seem to leave. At least it entertains me. ;-)
You know what was interesting to me .. No, I do not have a child. No, I do not consider my dog a child (though he is a four-legged dependent ;-). Yes, I am quite sure that I would love a child in a very different way. But - I never realized just how much I could actually love an animal. And somehow, even that made me appreciate how my parents feel about us a little bit more.
I can see that because I know my family is very attached to their little Maggie, whether they'd admit it or not. :) (That's their shih-tzu).
(insert music notes) peanut butter and sardine sandwich again. Just when I thought my mother was my friend. Here I am sitting in the lunchroom, wishing I didn't have this sandwich...
I get that stuck in my head almost every day!
Lol! What on earth are you singing?! :) I've never heard it. Please enlighten me!
Love that, Jennifer! You just gave me an idea for a post-about loving more than one, thanks.
Well written! And so true!
-Kathryn
as we were on our way back from st johns i told brad-which he agreed-pretty much exactly what you wrote in your second bullet...that i cant imagine the feeling of being a parent and how much stronger love will be between you and your children compared to you and your siblings. anyways thanks for that special post! :)
