Junk Jackpot!

Front
Back

I got a call this morning from Jessica (married to Keith - she's Tina & Arnie's daughter) that there was a sale behind my house with old windows and doors. Man I love that! Nothing better than getting woken up for a good sale. (I have the greatest friends. But doesn't everyone?) :) It was after 10 already! We've still been on this awful schedule. Late nights, late start to the day. Most people would think that sounds like bliss but it does get old being all off schedule from the rest of the world. :) I keep saying, "next week we'll get back on a schedule, next week we'll get back on a schedule..." and the same thing happens all over again. I know I'm lucky though because my kids will sleep-in when they stay up really late! So I'm not complaining there. :) We'll be on a schedule soon enough, when school starts!

Back to the sale. So Jess calls and I tear out of bed. Kids were a flyin'. We wolfed down some cereal, whipped our clothes on and flew out the door. Cart was lagging a little behind. He likes to eat a little more than the rest of us. ;)

The sale was about a mile from here. There were a ton of old doors and windows. She wasn't kidding. There were only a couple with the eight panes like I prefer so I grabbed those! And I bought nine. Yes nine old wooden hand-made picture frames of every size. Mostly 8 x 10 and larger - some were much bigger but I don't know the exact measurements. They look like old barn wood but not all of them were and the guy had made them himself! How cool is that?! He said they were very old. - And I could tell by looking at them. He was an old Finnlander (a Kangas). Not that old though. ;) He was a senior citizen. But senior citizens are getting younger and younger these days! Heck of a nice guy. I chatted with him the whole time...and I was there for a while!

I just had Mark swing by to pick up the doors this afternoon. I couldn't remember how many I bought. I was thinking about four. He called me while he was there. I bought six! One is an old screen door with a wide scallop edge around the storm window! I love it. It's bright, and I mean bright, orange at the moment. That. I don't love so much. I'll be painting it before...or (shrug) after it's on the house - maybe the laundry room. Jess called me back (I had called her in my excitement, after, and left a voicemail) while I was working on this post and said her aunt Julie (Wayne) has a screen on her pantry. Which reminded me that I've clipped out that very same idea from magazines. So there's another thought... Lol.

At that same sale, there was a flat trailer covered in junk! I call that an *imagination table* because you find so many cool odds-and-ends that can be used for whatever you can imagine! Everything on that table was 5 for a quarter. So I picked up 20 odds-and-ends for a buck.

I only made it to one other sale by the time the cash ran out. ;) I found a vintage wooden ironing board. Now that was a serious jackpot for me too! I've been patiently waiting for one for several years - not willing to shell out the 20-40 bucks or more I've seen for them in antique shops. This one's real sturdy and heavy duty (as you can see above). I was thrilled! Not sure, until I start decorating, whether it will go in the laundry room or elsewhere as a side table. For any junkers who may appreciate this beaut, I paid under 10 bucks for it! Yes. I'm smiling.

And while I was writing this, Mark called me again. He went to that other sale and picked up what I was thinking might be old gas cans but didn't really think they were. One a bright yellow color. He asked the guy what they were and I could kind of hear the conversation. I think he said they were used by firefighters, years ago for carrying water to put out fires. They had straps so you could carry them on your back but the hoses were missing. I know they're unique so I could sell the grey one and maybe put the yellow one in the boy's room. (Another piece of unique junk to add to the growing pile that I want to sell!)
