Earliest Junking Memory
As I was sitting here, a memory came to mind. In fact, as I think about it, it's the earliest junking memory that I have.
I was a very young girl and I was with Gordon and Marilyn (my aunt & uncle and Kuomis (godparents)), who truly have inspired my love for all things vintage, and we were at Albert and Felma's house. And I believe it was after Albert had passed away. That would be my Auntie Marilyn's (and my Uncle Bill's) parents.
I remember there was a lot of stuff in the garage and as I was fairly young at the time, my memory doesn't hold whether or not there was a garage sale. I want to say there was but I really can't be too sure. I only remember a box of pencils and small office supplies such as scissors, stapler and staple puller. That is all I remember.
I very clearly remember the scissors and that the pencils were in a cardboard box. I have those scissors. To this day I treasure them. They were silver and metal and I used them often. They are in my box of office supplies now. Sitting and resting after years of use. They may even have a bit of rust on them. I do remember Albert and Felma a little as well. But only vaguely. But those scissors, as simple of a utilitarian object as they are, hold a very special place for me. They were my very first piece of junk. That was the beginning of the road for me. The beginning of this wonderful journey. There is no destination. No end in sight. That is the pure joy of junk collecting. It is endless, infinite. And for me, there is an endless thrill in finding that perfect treasure over and over again.
Note: After writing this post, I felt compelled to find those old scissors. They do not, in fact, have a single drop of rust on them. They are, however, well worn. I love them! (Behind them is my newest apron and my new favorite! I found it at The Mission House the first time I stopped there. I love the design on this material!)

I realize this took place many, many years ago. But...Albert and Felma (not Thelma) never lived up north. They lived, until they passed away, in Southfield.
Lol! Ok as I was writing that I didn't think it was Thelma and I wasn't so sure about that (where they lived). See! It *was* MANY years ago. When would that have been?
Oh dear! I *must* be getting old myself. :)
When I saw the picture I thought it might be Felma's. She was the cutest little old lady and always wore those old fashioned aprons. And I don't remember if they had a garage sale or not (probably did) but I know they went through Alberts things when he died. I think that is where we got those old coffee cans I use to have on top of the cupboards. Albert use to keep nails and such in them. I'm not sure what I did with them. Throw them away? Sell them at a garage sale? or do I still have them?......
Well then, that's perfect that I used it for a backdrop! :) I remember her being a very sweet little lady. Did she have white hair that she wore in a bun?
Jen, Junk is fun - I have plenty around here too - the Niemis were special people. Laura
