House Update

Mark recently bought a sawmill. For anyone who's like me and thinks a sawmill is a huge building that you use to mill up lumber, it's actually just a large piece of equipment. That was news to me! You learn something new every day...

Our friend, Dale (married to Vanessa - who's Stephanie's sister, who's married to Dale's brother Kevin) came out to the property and cut down a bunch of our trees. He's a logger.

So, Mark's going to try to mill up a bunch of lumber, the rest of the lumber, for our house. He's now mulling over his next purchase - a planer (for smoothing the lumber out). We're planning to have wood walls rather than drywall - at least for some or most of the house - in order to go with the more primitive look that I prefer. It will still be painted - most likely white - maybe with color...not sure yet.

He's also planning to make the floors. We want wide planks for some of it. Mark found a huge pile of oak hardwood flooring at the dump a while ago. Someone had ripped it out of their house and it's in "mint" condition. He just had to pull all the nails out. It's now neatly stacked in our outdoor sauna. We were really fired up! He'll need to sand and refinish it in the stain we want though. But it was "free" and for us, "time" doesn't cost a dime if it's going into our own house.
