I've been feeling so uninspired for the past two days. Maybe not so much uninspired as inspired in a different way.
I don't have too many thoughts rockin' through my head at the moment. :) It may be the stress... I'm so excited about the house but I suppose even good stress is still stress. ;) Or it may be that I just need another cup of coffee. I've had only a half a cup so far. And most days, by now I've had half a pot!
Yesterday, Mark took Nikayda and Aapo with him after lunch. What a treat. And they loved it too. Any chance they get, they're at the property. :)
Then Cart and I headed out to The Mission House to throw down a little cash on a whole lotta junk. ;) I got lots of cool stuff! And everything was 25% off to boot! (Didn't even know that until I checked out...so I tossed an old-fashioned adding machine, that I'd been eyeing for a few weeks, onto the pile. Well not so much tossed per se as to lug and heft it all the while doing a little grunting. That thing is HEAVY!) Then we headed to our friendly neighborhood Wal-Mart for a grocery trip that was long overdue. I stretched through two weeks, this time. Anything to save a few bucks while we're building... ;)
Back to the "uninspired" business. I may feel a lack of inspiration in the words department at the moment but I've been feeling tremendous inspiration with the house. Cart and I headed over there with supper after dropping off the groceries. I swear, I have so many ideas bouncing through my head at any given moment for that place.
And yeah...I'm talking about my house again. By now, you've picked up on the fact that I will be talking about it a lot - at least until we move. And probably quite often afterward as it will be an ongoing 20+ year project. ;)
We went over the placement of the lighting while I was there. Can you believe that I have to make those decisions right now? Lol! I can't because I don't even have any light fixtures. This was a bit of a tricky process because I have a lot of ideas for vintage lighting but haven't picked anything up yet...
The problem is that I care about every single little detail. It's not that I just care about it, it's that I love to care about it. This is the fun part for me!
Not sure if I've mentioned any of my light-fixture ideas before... A part of me is reluctant because it sounds more extravagant than it really is - and we don't have the money for extravagance. :) Any of my favorite room layouts that I've seen in the magazines have all had chandeliers. Yes. Chandeliers. (Cringe). Now you're thinking - aren't I a fancy pants?! Lol! But I'm not. Really. I want a very rustic, shabby chic, junk look to my house. And that frilly part of me that wants it to look girly wants some chandeliers...
In the bathrooms.
And my bedroom and Nikayda's room.
Places that most people will never even see them, I suppose...
See. The thing here is I have no intention of buying any expensive light fixtures. Ever. :) I plan to sit and wait and watch (the net, garage sales, junk stores, antique stores), for years if need be, for all of my light fixtures. So, in the meantime, we'll be staring at a lot of light bulbs. I don't mind that either because I think half the fun of decorating for me is the hunting.
Mark and I have also been working on the design for our bathroom door and a little closet door (in the front hall for the vacuum/cleaning supplies). Our house is fairly compact due to the style of it so there wasn't really room for a full-bathroom on the first floor. And the full-bath that was planned for the loft? Not gonna happen. The ceiling is too sloped for it. So a first floor full-bathroom it is! Only a little more cramped for space but we'll figure it out.
We've been winging this whole thing. Without floor plans, we've easily changed things as we've gone along. But we've also come upon unexpected layout issues like the bathrooms. No problem, really. We just can't have a door on the bathroom...
A regular door, anyway. So, we're designing a different style. Not a pocket door either. I had a little different idea... :) The final design hasn't been decided on yet. And with us, we may just use a regular (smaller) door, in the end. We'll just have to wait and see. Lol.
Holy buckets! It's pouring rain all of a sudden. Bummer for Mark! I haven't asked/and didn't notice if he got all of the roof shingled yet. Actually, I think he may have. ;)
Looks like we won't be heading out there today. Mark and I were going to inspect all (10) of the doors that we have found junk picking and decide what goes where. Even if it dries up, I'm not willing to watch the battle of The Mud vs. My Kids! We all know how that one ends!

Chandeliers can be great. There are so many that aren't fancy looking (my preference anyway). My mom has one over the dining room table that's perfectly simple and elegant. I'll be excited to see your house some 20+ years down the road. :-)
Whew! You're busy and you and Mark both sound relaxed! No house plans; I don't think I could do that. But it sounds fun when I think of you designing and redesigning your own plans. I'm sure most people think "oh I wish I would've done _____ instead!" after they build and you won't have to think that way. Sounds fun! Can't wait to see some photos of your place!

I'm so excited for you with all the house planning...and I'm eagerly awaiting pictures once you get in full swing with decorating! I liked a few things in Cottage Living...one of their design editors, Heather Chadduk (sp?) does some really cool stuff....she'd papered a whole ceiling in vintage maps....I could see you doing quirky things like that.
(re: Rocks in My Dryer) You're welcome! I haven't browsed much on her site but she's got a very neat blog! Have you checked out craftster.com....there's very neat decorating ideas there too....lots of crafty people in this world!
And Re: Heather Bailey fabric....yum! I wish I could seriously sew clothes....I'd be doing slews of funky dresses and stuff for my girls....if I only had the time and know-how! =)
Thanks ladies for leaving your comments! I really love that when you do!
And Becca, I've been on here ALL DAY looking at cool blogs with plenty of inspiration. My fingers are itching to sew too. I've had ideas running through my head for years. Can't wait to have a place to set up for projects!
When Nikayda was a baby I came across the coolest (funkiest) little dress made entirely out of vintage handkerchiefs!
I have a bunch that I used for impromptu *curtains* in my living room in this rental. But if we ever have another little girl, I'd like to try my hand at that dress.
And the map thing, that's so funny that you mentioned that. I've been waiting to come upon some vintage maps for my boy's walls! LOL!
