I just learned, yesterday, that I'm going to be supporting a whole lot of missions not affiliated with our church.
I stopped at a garage sale in P. R. that consisted of two large outbuildings packed floor to ceiling with junk - most of it good junk. One building had mostly old clothes and books and odds and ends for the house. I found a darling, brown vintage suitcase - 12 bucks. (More than I'd spend if I'd waited but still a good deal. It's in nearly-mint condition and it's very old! See story below about waiting.) The other building had vintage dishes, baby clothes, medicine bottles, suitcases. You name it. Basically a bunch of the junk that I collect. And you can't beat the prices. Everything was priced to go! After talking to the lady at the register. Yes, there was a cash register involved here. She said they will be open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (I think Fri. was the third day being that it was Friday when I was there.) every week until fall!
I'd stopped there at the end of the season, last year. It was early fall, I think. But I hadn't realized it was an ongoing little business. They have it posted as a garage sale. And they have every right with the prices they're marking! I'm so excited to go back. There were a bunch of things I passed up. (I had hit my limit for the week because I'd been garage saleing all morning and found a ton of stuff).
The reason I'll be supporting other missions: The place is called The Mission House. All the proceeds go to missions. (And I'm planning to make frequent stops.) :)
Is that fine? Or right?? I've always gone to church sales (I find a lot of great old stuff at them). When I started garage saleing on my own. I avoided them, until one was outside in the yard and I stopped. And found tons of stuff.
The thing is, I've gone to many garage sales where they have signs posted saying that the proceeds will support missions or church trips or the likes. Sometimes I hadn't even noticed the signs until after I bought my stuff. I guess I can think of many worse things to be 'supporting'...
I just always wonder since it's not for our church...
