We were having a bit of a "crisis"-type day yesterday. (Or so it felt like it). Carter was pretty sick and I was a "bit" stressed (understatement).
If you were to ask me how it is when he's sick, I'd probably tell you it's alright and we manage. But the truth is, I kind of "freak out" every time he gets like this. It's much easier to say that here than to actually tell you that. When your baby is having trouble breathing and he's having an asthma-type attack, it's VERY scary.
When things are stressful around here, I just plain-old freak out.
I needed to go to Wal-Mart for diapers because I had exactly two left. My tabs expired on the old "bargain cruiser" in February which I, had no idea until we were at Troy and Nora's house on Sunday.
Troy's looking out the window and saying: "February?! Huh?!" and kind of laughing.
I'm like: "What are you talking about?"
"Your tabs", he says.
"OH NO, I had no clue!!" (It's the middle of March).
To top it off, we have a broken taillight cover. (Which has been that way since we moved here in December 2005). I keep putting red tape on it but this winter the tape wasn't sticking so well because of the cold. I'm certain that I'm going to get pulled over for it again. Yes. Again.
A few months after we moved, I was driving home from Wal-mart at night, with the kids, and I was just pulling into town, two blocks from our house and was pulled over. Just for the broken taillight cover...and for the cops own curiosity, I'm sure. He lived two-doors down from us at the time. I'm sure he just wanted to see who we were. He let me go and told me to fix it. So, I fixed it. (My way, with a little bit of red tape.) It's definitely time to order that cover!
Getting back to my story - yesterday: I have a "bargain cruiser" with expired tabs and a broken taillight cover, a screaming, sick baby, two diapers left, and not a nerve to be found in my body.
My baby needed to nap, in a bad way and I needed those diapers. So. I called Sara who I knew was at the dentist with Will. She said she could lend a couple to me on her way home. Great!
Then she called back to say she could watch the kids at my house and I could run to get the tabs and the diapers (and have a quick break)! So, I got a "breather" and when I got back, felt more calm and we ordered pizzas for supper. And I'm just glad she stayed until after 8 so my evening was great and Carter was happier with the other kids around. By the time they left, it was time for bed. The end.

I only have 1 kid and I have some stressful days! Maren had to use a nebulizer with albuterol for a little bit last year because she was really wheezy when she got a bad cold and I was a nervous wreck! (Since it's the first time around for me though I think I get more worried about things than others do!) So, I can sympathize with you! Take care and hopefully your little man gets better!
This is my first time with a kid with breathing problems - and I can be a nervous wreck. I don't think it gets any easier with more kids. I'm not a big worrier about things with my kids but the breathing thing is so scary. You're so lucky she hasn't needed it this year. Carter has had problems since he was born. He's 17 months old. I'm hoping he'll outgrow them. Some of my friends out here have kids that have outgrown it. He too, only gets like this when he gets a cold - which he seems to get several times a winter. He also had pneumonia, last spring. I'm hoping, this year will be better.
