Paint it Easy

Picking out paint colors is so much easier when you don't think of it as a marriage proposal.

I realize that finding the perfect color is a very serious commitment. But really. It's not like a marriage. It's really not. Unlike your spouse, you can change it if you want to.

I find that there are far too many colors out there to choose from. And I love colors. It's just that when I'm given so many choices, I start to feel...overwhelmed. I mean, which blue/green do I really want to stare at for the next few weeks. Few months. Few years. How do I decide. Do I go really pale and risk it looking too washed out. We've experienced this before, with our kitchen, when we lived in Michigan. I wanted a pale minty green color. It ended up looking washed out and we always said that we should've gone a shade darker. We'd probably have liked it better. Yet, on the other hand, if it's the right color it may turn out to be the perfect shade of pale bluish green that we're looking. How do we know. Or do we go with a little darker shade and risk it being, well, too dark.

I know you can buy those little sample containers of paint so you can test out the different colors, but I still need to know the direction I'm going before I start stock piling samples.

So I'm trying to convince myself that this is not, in fact, a big commitment even though it feels like it. Have I mentioned that other than that place in Michigan, this is the first place we've been able to choose paint colors for our walls (and we've moved many times). And have I mentioned that I tend to complicate things far more than necessary. It's not intentional or anything. It's just what I do. In fact, I've gotten quite good at it over the years. I am at the root of most of my own stress. But then again, aren't we all.

Actually, truth be told, I narrowed down the paint colors when I got back to the car. Before I even headed home. I knew it would ease things up a bit for me if I just stuck to the few that really caught my eye. But now the problem is...there are too few blue/greens to choose from. The hardware store only had about three chips with varying blue/greens on them {that looked to be about the tone I was looking for} and I'm not feelin' it. I may need to go somewhere else. Or just pick one and like it. And the latter sounds like the easier choice here. :) Why throw a hundred more colors on the pile.

We can always repaint...

I can completely relate Jen. I love all sorts of color too - from the bright and bold to the soft soothing tones...so hard to choose! I have made the mistake of buying two gallons of a certain color that I just LOVED from the little paint chip...slapped some on the wall and HATED it...small sample containers are the way to go! But it is hard to just buy a little jar when you want to get started on such a fun project...who likes to make five trips to the paint store?
