Skunk's in the Barnyard...

Pee-yew!!!

One day, last week, while we were at our property the kids were standing in the driveway. I was near the ol' bargain cruiser. I turned around to see a little critter cruising straight up the drive, making a beeline for my kids. As my eyes focused more clearly, I realized this little furry creature was non other than the dreaded skunk and it was scampering straight for my kids!

"Nikayda! Aapo! Get in the van!!!! There is a skunk!" Boy did they scoot. They tore for that van so fast. I've never seen them move like that! As I was yelling at the skunk, it promptly turned around and headed for the woods as my dear husband loaded his conveniently-handy shotgun and went on the prowl. Of course, by this time the critter was nowhere to be found thanks to my "momma's voice" and he came back after a long moment of silence (due to the lack of the shotgun going off).

Sort of whincing-like: "Maybe I shouldn't have yelled so much....?"

"Yeah. Probably not."

But I wasn't going to let that critter near my babies!

And it was only later that I realized that my kids didn't even get a glimpse of the thing.

Nikayda,"Mommy are skunks really big?"

No wonder she ran! She was probably thinking this awful beast was as big as an elephant.

Ha ha! The poor kids running for dear life! But um, if Mark shoots this little skunk, I hope he has a good shot and veers away from the stink sack or you shall have a very lovely smelling house.

When they see their first skunk, they'll likely not know what it is - expecting something *much* bigger. ;-)

Amanda did you mean "husband" (house)? :)

And Lib - I know! I think I'd better show them a picture. :)

Jeff says skunks are the scariest things in the woods. He's hit one in his car before so he's had the full effect.

oooh that definitely a creature we don't have here, I'm kind of glad we don't :-)

How big do they think ticks or bats are? Your reaction to them probably has them up at night! My kids probably think snakes are all 20 feet long by how I react.

Lol! (Sue).

That's true! I never *thought* of that! Maybe I should show them. :)
