Kids are in bed.
I'm sitting in my chair.
Reclining.
Feet propped up on a pillow.
I've got a cup of coffee.
A package of Thin Mints and the latest issue of Country Living.
I am all set for a moment of relaxing.
For that's all it is...
A moment.
No sooner do I sink into the chair when the first little face peeks around the corner.
It's Nikayda grinning, "Mommy, what is that?," referring to the Thin Mint I hold mid-air.
(Busted!)
"Nothing."
I smile. Trying to act casual.
"Go back to bed. It's time for bed."
And away she prods.
(She believes me... Maybe not. But she goes anyway.)
Not two minutes later...
Another small face peeks around the corner.
Another grinning face.
He knows I'm going to be so happy to see him.
He's going to be disappointment...
"Aapo, get back in bed."
He looks at me,"I have to go pee."
"Then go. And get back in bed."
Ten minutes later...
I'll try again.

I swear that kids can always hear/sense that mom is sneaking a snack. It can be rocking in this house but if I open a can of pop or candy bar wrapper I all the sudden have little hands to fill up. I could have just been yelling for them to clean up and not a one came running then.
Funny! That is definitely how it goes!!
