It's been a busy and eventful day around here. Notice, I did not say fun or exciting but merely eventful. This morning, I brought the kids to the school. It's a program we go to on Fridays - sort of like reading hour at the library - only it's at the school. They love it and I know not to mention it to them until five minutes before we head out the door. I do this for two reasons - 1. In case I decide not to go (because often I try to get out of it) and 2. They will be standing by the door with their jackets, hats and mittens for hours. (This has happened before).
After that, we headed out for a healthy lunch at The Golden Arches. (This was following the parent meeting with the nutritionist at the school, this morning.) Then we went to the grocery store and stocked up on fruits and veggies. There's the nutrition! (We're working on major life changes here). I haven't the slightest idea how I'm going to get myself to eat the vegetables, let alone my kids! But we're trying.
I think I've finally found my exercise niche. I love to do yoga and I love to jog. Only, I haven't been jogging in months. I tried it out for six weeks, this fall, and then the days got shorter and I stopped. It was easier when Mark could watch the kids because it was still light out in the evenings. It'd be so nice to have a treadmill. Only, when I weigh my options: Treadmill...House? - there doesn't seem to be much of a question there. So, I'm anxiously awaiting longer days. (Don't forget: It's daylight savings time this weekend)! I, for one, am so excited about the earlier time this year. I'm hoping my kids will start to sleep in again if it's darker in the morning.
When we move, we'll be living in the country on a partially (mostly, almost completely) secluded dirt road. So, until I get over my fear of bears, cougars, and spiders - which I don't see happening anytime in this lifetime, I will want a treadmill.
Did you know I saw a bear when I first moved here? We were here for only a few months and I saw a HUGE brown bear. (I'm still not entirely convinced that grizzlies don't roam this area.) The irony of seeing that bear is that, six months later we bought property on the same road! Supposedly, (I think there's a conspiracy here) there are only black bears in our area.
I asked a Conservation Officer friend of ours, we'll call him Al (because that's his name) if there are "brown" bears in our neck of the woods. His response, Yes there are. They're really black bears with a brownish color. They're called Cinnamon Bears. CINNAMON BEARS?! Is that supposed to make them seem all sweet and cute?! It ain't working for me!
It's funny. I vowed I would never live in the U.P. because it's infested with bears even though I love the Copper Country. Yet, as I prepared for my move to this area, somehow, someone forgot to mention the little bitty minor detail of bears roaming this area. In fact, it remained below my radar until we had already signed on for the house we're living in... Hmmm.... Conspiracy theory indeed!
Did you know that my fear has worn off on Sara - who remained obliviously fearless until I rolled into town? What can I say, misery loves company. She's also now very much afraid of cougars too! (I'm working on the spiders next.)
